In the early hours of a November morning in Rock Hill, South Carolina, the life of 30-year-old Lamarcus Colvin was tragically cut short. The male victim was at the Sports Unlimited Bar and Lounge on Albright Road on November 7, 2020, when gunfire erupted just before 12:30 a.m. In the ensuing chaos, three other individuals were also wounded by the spray of bullets.
All four victims were rushed to Piedmont Medical Center in separate vehicles.
While two of the men, aged 27 and 35, were treated for their injuries and expected to recover, and a third man, 25, was admitted with serious injuries, Colvin succumbed to his wounds and died at the hospital. The York County Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity.
In the days following the fatal shooting, investigators with the Rock Hill Police Department worked to piece together the events of that violent night. Their efforts led them to identify 34-year-old Shawn David Durham as the primary suspect in the case. Warrants were quickly issued for his arrest on a litany of charges, including murder, three counts of attempted murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The manhunt for Durham crossed state lines and, with the assistance of U.S. Marshals, he was apprehended in Lexington, North Carolina, a couple of days after the shooting. Following his capture, he was held in the Davidson County, N.C., jail as he awaited extradition proceedings to be returned to South Carolina to face the charges against him. At the time of the incident, Durham was on probation, which was scheduled to last until 2024, for a prior felony domestic violence conviction from 2018.
