In the late winter of 2021, the community of Orangeburg, South Carolina, was struck by a violent tragedy that claimed the life of one of its own. Donald Lynn Sistrunk Jr., a 33-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on Saturday, March 6, 2021. The incident, which has been classified as a homicide, cut short a life and left a family searching for answers and justice.
Graveside services were held for Mr. Sistrunk the following Saturday, March 13, 2021, at Heavenly Rest Memorial Park.
Family and friends gathered to mourn the loss of a man taken from them far too soon. In the days and weeks that followed, law enforcement officials began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, seeking to bring closure to a grieving community.
Despite the passage of time, the case remains unsolved. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting death of Donald Lynn Sistrunk Jr., and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects. The investigation is ongoing, and the family continues to hope that those responsible will be brought to justice.
