In the late summer of 2021, the community of Loris, South Carolina, was unsettled by a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 35-year-old Latarius Evans. A Black male from the neighboring town of Tabor City, North Carolina, Evans was discovered deceased near Bennett Loop on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 22, 2021. The Horry County Police Department was called to the scene around 1 p.m., where they found Evans lying face down.
