On a quiet Sunday morning in Boiling Springs, South Carolina, a tragic event unfolded that would claim the life of 23-year-old MiAysha Brannon. On December 19, 2021, MiAysha, a student at Fort Valley State University who was home for the holidays, was fatally shot by her father, Arthur Brannon, in a devastating act of domestic violence.
The incident began with a verbal dispute between Arthur Brannon and his wife, Laquanda.
The argument escalated, and Arthur shot Laquanda before locking her out of their home. He then forced his daughter, MiAysha, into a room and barricaded the door before taking her life. Shortly after, Arthur Brannon ended his own life.
Deputies arrived at the scene around 6:30 a.m. to find Laquanda Brannon outside with a gunshot wound. She was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Unaware of the events that had transpired inside the house, law enforcement initially treated the situation as a potential hostage scenario. Hostage negotiators were brought in, but their attempts to make contact with Arthur were unsuccessful. A SWAT team eventually entered the home and discovered the bodies of both MiAysha and her father. The case was determined to be a murder-suicide, with Arthur Brannon as the perpetrator.
