In the early morning hours of September 14, 2022, the life of 45-year-old William Ewell was tragically cut short in Florence, South Carolina. Ewell, a Black male, was discovered shot inside his vehicle on Prout Drive. The Florence Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 6:45 a.m. He was quickly transported to a local hospital where he was ultimately pronounced dead.
The Florence County Coroner confirmed that Ewell's death was the result of a shooting.
For a period, the investigation into William Ewell's death was considered a cold case. However, the Florence Police Department continued to actively pursue leads in an effort to bring justice to his family and the community. These efforts eventually led to significant breakthroughs in the case.
Authorities have now arrested three individuals in connection with the homicide. One of the suspects has been identified as 28-year-old Eric Desandre Madison of Florence. He is facing charges of murder and criminal conspiracy. Two other suspects, Vanderhall and Brockington, were also taken into custody earlier. The arrests have brought a renewed sense of hope for resolution to those who knew and loved William Ewell. The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement continues to piece together the events that led to his untimely death.
