In the early morning hours of September 24, 2022, a violent outburst at a restaurant in Alcolu, South Carolina, claimed the life of 32-year-old Kevin Epps. The male victim was inside the establishment, located off of Azalea Lane, when gunfire erupted at approximately 5 a.m.
When deputies from the Clarendon County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene, they discovered Epps suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
A deputy immediately began performing CPR in an attempt to save his life while awaiting the arrival of other first responders. Despite these efforts, Kevin Epps succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The tragic incident also left two other individuals wounded. These victims were not found at the restaurant but had been transported by private vehicles to Prisma Tuomey Hospital in Sumter for treatment of their gunshot wounds. One of the injured was treated and subsequently released, while the other's injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.
Born on June 29, 1990, Kevin Quarmaine Epps was a resident of Sumter. He was known by friends and family to enjoy life and cherish the time he spent with his loved ones. An avid football fan, he was employed at a local roofing company. The investigation into the shooting was initiated by the Clarendon County Sheriff's Office, though no information regarding any arrests or identified suspects has been made publicly available.
