Michael Britt, a 34-year-old male, was looking for a job while visiting Summerville, South Carolina, from his home in California. On the evening of October 26, 2022, he was sitting on a bench with another man outside the Hampton Inn on Holiday Drive.
Their quiet evening was shattered when a man, later identified as 32-year-old Michael Terrell Profit, briefly entered the hotel lobby before coming back outside and approaching them.
Profit reportedly yelled, 'stop watching me,' before shooting Britt. The act was described by police as a random act of violence. Profit, who was out on bond for previous offenses and had an arrest record dating back to 2011, was identified by a witness who noted his gold teeth.
Profit was subsequently arrested in connection with the shooting. Michael Britt was pronounced dead at the scene.
