Gus Meeks, along with his family, was brutally murdered on the night of May 10, 1894, in Linn County, Missouri. The Meeks family, consisting of Gus, his wife Delora, and their children Hattie and Mary, were taken from their home and killed in cold blood. The only survivor was their six-year-old daughter, Nellie Meeks, who managed to escape despite being severely injured. The bodies of the Meeks family were discovered buried under a haystack on the farm of George Taylor, a prominent local figure.
