On the night of May 10, 1894, Delora Meeks, along with her husband Gus Meeks and their children, Hattie and Mary, were brutally murdered in Linn County, Missouri. The family was taken out of their home and killed in cold blood by George and William Taylor, prominent citizens of the area. The Taylors were known for their wealth and influence, but their reputation was marred by dishonest dealings.
