Policeman Lowell Pew of the Louisiana Police Department in Missouri was tragically killed on February 14, 1900. He was shot in the railroad yard by one of three tramps he caught breaking into a freight car. This incident occurred after Pew was called to the railroad depot by the night operator who reported suspicious activity in the yard. Pew's attempt to apprehend the suspects led to his untimely death.
