Marshal George Greer, aged 51, was tragically killed on March 27, 1904, in Bloomfield, Missouri. The incident began when Greer, serving as the City Marshal, encountered a man named Jim Jones who was intoxicated and causing a disturbance. Earlier in the evening, Marshal Greer had ordered Jones to go home due to his drunken behavior. Instead of complying, Jones went to a friend's house to retrieve a shotgun and set up an ambush at a stable located at the corner of Prairie and Center Streets.
