Detective Willie Neal Jr., a 29-year-old officer with the St. Louis County Police Department, tragically lost his life on January 29, 1997. On that fateful day, Detective Neal was engaged in an undercover operation in the 5900 block of Natural Bridge Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri. During the operation, he and his partner were confronted by a suspect who attempted to rob them. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, Detective Neal was mortally wounded.
