Sharon Joann Barnes, aged 48, tragically lost her life on December 10, 2002, in Dent County, Missouri. Chief Deputy Sheriff Barnes was fatally shot while investigating a double murder that had occurred earlier that day. She and the sheriff went to a home on County Road 231, west of Salem, to follow up on the case. As they approached the house, the suspect's girlfriend opened the door.
