Do you know who murder Raymond and his wife?\n In the late summer of 2000, a quiet home in Topeka, Kansas, became the scene of a brutal crime that would ultimately claim the life of an elderly man. Raymond Aguirre, an 82-year-old Caucasian male, and his 80-year-old wife, Mabel, were inside their residence at 1900 SE Washington on September 19, 2000, when their peace was shattered by an intruder.
The suspect, described as a Black male in his late teens to early 20s, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing around 160 pounds with a short afro, gained entry to the Aguirre's home through a bathroom window.
Once inside, the young man confronted the elderly couple and demanded money. When Raymond and Mabel told him they had none, he flew into a rage and viciously beat them until they were both unconscious. After the assault, the attacker ransacked the house, stealing checks and a gold-plated Seiko watch before fleeing through the back door. The couple lay injured and unconscious for many hours until they were discovered by their son the following day, lying in pools of their own blood.
Both Raymond and Mabel were rushed to the hospital to be treated for their severe injuries. The beating left Mabel blind in one eye and with lasting difficulty in moving. For Raymond, the injuries proved to be fatal. He succumbed to the trauma he sustained during the attack on October 14, 2000.
Despite an investigation by the Topeka Police Department, no arrests have been made in the case. The identity of the man who broke into the Aguirre's home and subjected them to a horrifying ordeal remains unknown. In an effort to generate leads, a governor's reward of $5,000 was offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, and the homicide of Raymond Aguirre. The case is still considered an unsolved homicide, a painful and unresolved chapter for the Aguirre family.
