Later in life, he also worked as a self-employed contractor. Described as the ultimate hero and protector of his family, he found joy in simple pleasures like hunting, attending gun shows and rodeos, and, most of all, sitting on his front porch, drinking coffee, and visiting with loved ones.
His passing was preceded by that of his wife, Mary Townsend, his son, Troy Townsend, a brother, a sister, and a granddaughter. He was survived by his two daughters, a son, numerous sisters and brothers, and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The circumstances of his death did not lead to any arrests, and there is no public record of any suspects being involved. He was laid to rest, remembered by his family and friends as a cherished member of their lives.
