Ronald Lee Novak, 24, was brutally murdered in his rural home near Center Point, Iowa, on December 24, 1983. His body was found in an unheated storage room, bound with his hands tied behind his back. He had been beaten with golf clubs and firewood, and shot in the chest. The freezing temperatures were harsh, with his three loyal golden retrievers huddled next to his body, attempting to keep him warm.
