In the quiet, rural community of Tyrone, Missouri, the night of February 26, 2015, was shattered by a wave of violence that left seven people dead, including 47-year-old Julie Ann Aldridge. The tragedy unfolded across several homes in the small town, leaving a community in shock and mourning.
The horrific events began to come to light when a 15-year-old girl fled her home after hearing gunshots and ran to a neighbor for help.
When sheriff's deputies arrived at the girl's residence, they discovered the bodies of her parents, Garold and Julie Aldridge. Both had been shot and killed. The violence, however, did not end there.
As law enforcement canvassed the area, the scale of the tragedy became devastatingly clear. In total, seven individuals were found shot to death in four different homes, all within a few miles of each other. The victims, in addition to Julie and Garold Aldridge, included Garold's brother and his wife, Harold and Janell Aldridge, as well as Darrell Shriver, his son Carey Shriver, and Carey's wife, Valirea. One woman, Martha Shriver, was also shot but survived.
The investigation quickly identified the sole suspect as 36-year-old Joseph Jesse Aldridge, a cousin to the Aldridge victims. The motive for the rampage is believed to have been connected to the recent death of his 74-year-old mother, Alice Aldridge. Authorities found her deceased in her home, apparently from natural causes, and speculated that this discovery may have triggered her son's violent actions. There were also reports of existing tensions within the extended family.
The search for Joseph Aldridge ended the following morning when he was found dead in his pickup truck in a neighboring county from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. With the perpetrator deceased, there were no arrests to be made. The small town of Tyrone was left to grapple with the immense loss of life and the shocking realization that the violence had come from within their own community.
