In the quiet, unincorporated community of Tyrone, Missouri, a tragic event unfolded on a cold February night in 2015, leaving a family and the small, rural town shattered. Among the victims was Janell Arlisa Dunkin Aldridge, a 48-year-old female who was killed in a shooting spree.
On the night of Thursday, February 26, and into the early morning of Friday, February 27, 2015, a series of shootings occurred at multiple residences within a three-mile radius in Tyrone.
Authorities were alerted to the violence when a female caller reported hearing gunshots and fled to a neighbor's house. Responding deputies discovered a horrific scene, with several people deceased inside multiple homes.
Janell Aldridge was found dead in her home, alongside her husband, Harold Wayne Aldridge. They were two of seven victims gunned down in the rampage. The other victims were identified as Garold Dee Aldridge, 52, Julie Ann Aldridge, 47, Darrell Dean Shriver, 68, Carey Dean Shriver, 46, and Valirea Love Shriver, 44. The relationships between all the victims were primarily familial, with the Aldridges being cousins and the Shrivers being a multi-generational family.
The investigation, led by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Texas County Sheriff's Department, quickly identified the perpetrator as 36-year-old Joseph Jesse Aldridge of Tyrone. He was a cousin to the Aldridge victims. After carrying out the shootings, Joseph Aldridge fled the area. His body was later found in his vehicle in the neighboring Shannon County from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities also discovered his 74-year-old mother, Alice L. Aldridge, deceased in her home, though her death was determined to be from natural causes that occurred prior to the shootings. While a definitive motive for the killings was not released, the tragic event has been linked to Joseph Aldridge being distraught over his mother's death. The investigation concluded that he was the sole person responsible for the homicides, and with his death, the case was closed.
