On March 30, 2015, authorities in Granby, Missouri, were called to a residence where they discovered the body of 58-year-old John Jordon just inside the front door of his home. Jordon had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. The investigation revealed that the shooting was the culmination of a tumultuous series of events involving the victim and a woman named Connie Sanders-Ford, with whom he had previously been involved in an extramarital affair.
Jordon, who had been married to his wife for more than 40 years, had attempted to end the relationship with Sanders-Ford, a decision that reportedly led to a campaign of harassment and stalking by the Fairview, Missouri woman.
Prior to the shooting, Sanders-Ford had engaged in erratic behavior directed at Jordon and his family. Testimony later provided by Jordon's wife and children detailed how Sanders-Ford had barged into the Jordon family home approximately a month before the murder to reveal the affair to Jordon's wife in an effort to destroy the marriage. Following this confrontation, the Jordon family sought legal protection; both John Jordon and his son filed for orders of protection against Sanders-Ford due to her persistent stalking and threats. Despite these measures, Sanders-Ford went to Jordon's home on that Monday afternoon and shot him. After the killing, she fled the scene and drove to a friend's house in Neosho, Missouri, where she confessed to the crime. The friend subsequently contacted 911, leading to her apprehension.
Connie Sanders-Ford, 65 years old at the time of the arrest, was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Prosecutors offered her a plea deal that would have resulted in a 25-year sentence for second-degree murder, but she rejected the offer and proceeded to trial. During the legal proceedings in May 2016, her defense attorney argued that the shooting was accidental, claiming the gun discharged during a struggle. However, the prosecution presented evidence of her premeditated actions and the history of threats against the victim. The jury found her guilty on both counts. In July 2016, a judge sentenced her to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus an additional three years. Sanders-Ford remained incarcerated at the Chillicothe Correctional Center until her death from natural causes on August 26, 2024, at the age of 74.
