On April 8, 2015, police officers in Kansas City, Missouri, discovered the body of 23-year-old male Dashone Dondrell Coleman. Patrolling near the Clark-Ketterman Athletic Field in the vicinity of 107th Street and Skiles Avenue, authorities found Coleman deceased in the driver's seat of a vehicle at approximately 1:00 a.m. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds which investigators determined were not self-inflicted.
Witnesses in the area reported hearing several gunshots around midnight, roughly an hour before the discovery, but no individuals were seen in or near the park at that time.
Coleman was originally a native of Cleveland, Mississippi, who had relocated to Austin, Texas, during his childhood before eventually attending Penn Valley Community College in Kansas City. Known to his friends and family for his outgoing personality and talent for rapping, he had also played on several AAU basketball teams in his youth. At the time of his death, he had been living in the Kansas City area, working various jobs while pursuing his education.
Despite the initial investigation by the Kansas City Police Department, the case encountered difficulties due to a lack of physical evidence and witnesses at the scene. Detectives investigated the incident as a homicide, yet no suspects were immediately identified. Over the years following the shooting, reports indicated that the case remained unsolved with no significant updates regarding arrests or charges filed against any individuals in connection with the murder. The authorities continued to urge anyone with information to contact local crime hotlines, but the inquiry yielded no successful leads to bring a perpetrator to justice.
