On a Wednesday afternoon in early August of 2015, the Kansas City Police Department received a call about a shooting. The report led them to the 14000 block of Interstate 49, just north of Missouri 150. Initially, officers were unable to locate a victim. A wider search of the area was conducted with the assistance of the Belton Police Department. This more thorough search led to a grim discovery inside a vehicle; the body of 23-year-old Cordell D. Bell. He had been fatally shot.
