On the evening of September 9, 2015, Lavell Boyd, a 32-year-old Black male, was fatally shot in St. Louis, Missouri. Boyd, a local rapper also known as Citystyles, was found unconscious in the driver's seat of his vehicle around 7:35 p.m. near the intersection of Riverview and Broadway. He had sustained several gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to witnesses, Boyd's vehicle was stopped at the intersection when two other vehicles pulled up alongside his car and
the occupants began shooting. The sustained gunfire caused what police described as "heavy ballistic damage" to Boyd's vehicle. The violence of the attack also struck a nearby house, where a 10-year-old girl inside was injured by shattered glass.
Boyd, a resident of Glasgow Village, was a rising figure in the St. Louis rap scene, with some of his music videos garnering hundreds of thousands of views online. He was a father to five children.
In the time following the shooting, police opened a homicide investigation. However, no suspects were publicly identified, and no arrests were announced in connection with the murder. The case was part of a particularly violent year for St. Louis, which saw a significant increase in homicides. The investigation into Lavell Boyd's death remains ongoing.
