Sharon Nelson, a 63-year-old woman from Lesterville, Missouri, was reported missing on November 4, 2015. Her body was discovered on January 13, 2016, near the Black River in an area that had recently experienced flooding. An autopsy revealed that Nelson had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. The Reynolds County Sheriff's Department immediately began investigating her death as a homicide.
