Roy R. Deonier, a 94-year-old male, passed away on April 3, 2016, in Joplin, Missouri. A longtime resident of the area, he had previously lived in Webb City and Sarcoxie, where he worked as a dairy farmer and for the Missouri State Highway Department. He was also a decorated veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army as a field lineman who participated in the invasion of Omaha Beach and campaigns across Europe.
Authorities responded to an incident at the assisted
living center where Deonier resided in Joplin. Following an investigation into the circumstances of his death, officials determined that he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The death was officially ruled a suicide by the local coroner and law enforcement agencies.
Because the investigation concluded that the death was self-inflicted, there were no suspects sought in connection with the case. Law enforcement did not pursue any criminal charges, and no arrests were made. The case was closed following the determination of the cause of death, with no evidence suggesting the involvement of any other individuals.
