In the early morning hours of August 13, 2016, the life of eight-year-old Montell Ross was tragically cut short in a hail of gunfire that tore through his Kansas City, Missouri, home. That night, what should have been a peaceful time of rest turned into a scene of unimaginable violence when assailants fired more than 20 shots into the residence. Montell, a young boy described as happy and a 'mama's boy,' was fatally wounded in the attack.
He was not the only victim of this senseless act; his nine-year-old cousin, Jayden Ugwuh, was also killed. The two boys, who were reportedly inseparable, had been playing video games before the shooting began.
