In the early morning hours of October 30, 2016, a dispute inside a Kansas City nightclub tragically spilled out into the parking lot, resulting in the death of 33-year-old Andres Garcia-Jimenez. The Hispanic/Latino man was found by police in the 1600 block of Universal Avenue after they responded to a call about shots being fired. Garcia-Jimenez showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead a short time later.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to 24-year-old Juan J.
Bravo-Leon. Witnesses reported that Garcia-Jimenez and Bravo-Leon had a confrontation inside the Palmeras Disco nightclub after bumping into each other. According to court documents, after Garcia-Jimenez left the club, Bravo-Leon followed him into the parking lot. An argument ensued, during which Bravo-Leon allegedly fired a handgun once into the ground before shooting Garcia-Jimenez in the chest. A witness at the scene told police that a small red car fled immediately after the shooting.
A crucial piece of evidence that led investigators to Bravo-Leon was a jacket left at the scene. Inside one of the pockets, police discovered a cellphone that they were able to link to him. When questioned by detectives, Bravo-Leon reportedly admitted to the shooting but claimed it was an accident.
Following the investigation, Juan J. Bravo-Leon was charged with second-degree murder, assault, and two counts of armed criminal action in connection with the death of Andres Garcia-Jimenez. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000.
