In the early morning hours of March 6, 2017, the life of 25-year-old Joshua C. Monroe, a Black male from Saint Louis, Missouri, was tragically cut short. The circumstances of his death were violent and sudden, leaving a community in shock and a family grappling with a profound loss. On that Monday, at approximately 7:00 AM, police responded to a call of shots fired in Ferguson, near the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Estelle Street.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a grim
scene. Monroe was found inside a vehicle, having sustained fatal gunshot wounds. In a separate vehicle nearby, another young man, 18-year-old Vito Dodson, was also found deceased from gunshot wounds. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene, turning a quiet residential street into the site of a double homicide investigation.
The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis was quickly activated to handle the complex investigation into the killings of Monroe and Dodson. Despite their efforts and public appeals for information, the case has grown cold. To date, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murders. The authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward, hopeful that a crucial tip might bring a breakthrough in the unsolved case and provide long-awaited answers and a measure of justice for the families of the two young men.
