On the afternoon of Sunday, March 26, 2017, a violent incident unfolded in Columbia, Missouri, claiming the lives of two men. The victims were identified as Jeffery D. Jones, a 26-year-old male from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and his half-brother, 32-year-old Michael J. Walker Jr., a resident of Columbia. The two had reportedly attended a concert together over the weekend and were traveling in a white sport utility vehicle along with a third unidentified passenger.
They were in the area of I-70 Drive Northwest and Garden Drive around 12:45 p.m. when the shooting occurred.
Police officers responded to reports of gunfire and arrived at the scene to find the white SUV stopped in the roadway, riddled with bullet holes. Jeffery D. Jones was discovered inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Michael J. Walker Jr. and the third passenger were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Walker later succumbed to his wounds at the hospital, while the third man survived. Witnesses or local residents in the normally quiet area were unable to provide immediate answers, and officers found cash and a Rolex watch inside the vehicle during their initial investigation.
Despite the passage of several years, the double homicide remains unsolved. As of reports from 2025, the case has been categorized as a cold case by the Columbia Police Department.
