In the early hours of a Wednesday morning in July 2017, the life of 19-year-old Ivory Newbern was tragically cut short. Police responded to a call of a shooting near the Martin Luther King Bridge in downtown St. Louis at approximately 1:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Newbern inside a vehicle, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led authorities to two suspects who were also suffering from gunshot
wounds. Tyler Deboise, 18, of East St. Louis, and another 19-year-old man were located and transported to a local hospital for treatment. Following his release from the hospital, Deboise was taken into police custody. Investigators believe that Newbern and the suspects were acquainted with one another.
Warrants were subsequently issued for Tyler Deboise's arrest. He faced a litany of charges, including murder, unlawful use of a weapon, four counts of armed criminal action, and three counts of assault. The second suspect was reported to be in critical and unstable condition at the time of Deboise's arrest.
