In the summer of 2017, the life of 20-year-old Damian Ramon Davis, a male resident of Columbia, Missouri, was tragically cut short. On the evening of Saturday, July 22nd, Columbia police were dispatched to an apartment on Quail Drive following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered Davis inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, Davis succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to
a suspect. Within days, law enforcement identified and apprehended Jhavon Leroi Patton in connection with Davis's death. The Columbia Police Department's investigation suggested that the shooting was the culmination of a dispute between the two men. Patton was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action, facing the prospect of a lengthy prison sentence if convicted.
As the case proceeded through the legal system, the Boone County Prosecuting Attorney's Office prepared for trial. Evidence gathered by detectives and witness testimonies were presented to build a case against Patton. Ultimately, Patton entered a guilty plea to the amended charges of voluntary manslaughter and armed criminal action. For his role in the death of Damian Davis, Jhavon Leroi Patton was sentenced to a total of 22 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections. He received a 15-year sentence for voluntary manslaughter and a consecutive 7-year sentence for the armed criminal action charge.
