David Lee Morgan, a 40-year-old male, lost his life to an act of gun violence in Columbia, Missouri, during the summer of 2019. On the evening of June 26, 2019, law enforcement officials from the Columbia Police Department were dispatched to the 1500 block of Tupelo Place. The initial call, which came in at approximately 8:30 p.m., reported a verbal disturbance in the area.
While officers were still en route to the scene to address the altercation, emergency dispatchers received additional reports indicating that shots had been fired at the same location.
Upon arriving at the scene, first responders discovered Morgan suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the immediate presence of medical personnel who attended to him, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Columbia Police Department’s detectives, alongside the Forensic Evidence Unit, secured the area to process the crime scene, gathering evidence and interviewing potential witnesses to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. The authorities notified Morgan's next of kin shortly after his identification was confirmed.
In the days following the homicide, the investigation made significant progress. Although initial reports from the night of the shooting indicated no immediate suspect information was available for release, police continued to follow leads. Subsequently, Boone County authorities successfully apprehended three suspects in connection with Morgan’s death. These individuals were taken into custody and held as part of the ongoing inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the shooting on Tupelo Place.
