In a tragic turn of events on a Tuesday afternoon in the West End neighborhood of St. Louis, a dispute escalated into deadly violence, claiming the life of 44-year-old Matthew Barry. The incident, which unfolded near the intersection of Page Boulevard and Belt Avenue, also resulted in the death of 45-year-old Otis Bennett. Both men sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Following the double homicide on August 29, 2017, the St.
Louis Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation that quickly led to the identification of two suspects. Korey Edwards, 34, and Marvell Minnis, 41, were subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shootings.
Both Edwards and Minnis faced serious charges for their alleged roles in the deaths of Matthew Barry and Otis Bennett. The charges included two counts of first-degree murder and armed criminal action for each man. Following their arrest, they were held on a $500,000 cash-only bond as the legal process against them commenced.
