On the night of Friday, February 16, 2018, law enforcement officers in Kansas City, Missouri, were dispatched to a residence in the Northland neighborhood following reports of gunfire. Just after 10:00 p.m., a call came in to emergency dispatchers from a witness who described the sound of shots being fired in the area. Police units responded to the 5400 block of North Poe Street to investigate the disturbance.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers were directed to a specific home where
they discovered a male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was identified as 20-year-old Ronnie Engle. Despite the arrival of first responders, he had sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Kansas City Police Department immediately classified the incident as a homicide and began processing the residence for evidence.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, investigators canvassed the area and appealed to the public for any leads. Authorities urged anyone with information regarding the circumstances of the shooting to contact the TIPS Hotline. At the time of the initial reports and subsequent listings of area homicides for that year, no specific suspects had been publicly named or taken into custody in connection with the death of Mr. Engle.
