In a tragic turn of events, 31-year-old Katrina Banks and her 15-year-old son, Kevin Robinson, were found deceased in their Bellefontaine Neighbors, Missouri, home on February 22, 2018. The grim discovery was made after police received a chilling 911 call from a man who stated there were three bodies at the residence. That man was later identified as Banks's fiancé, 31-year-old Dornubari Dugbor.
Investigators determined that Dugbor shot and killed Banks and her son before turning the
gun on himself in a murder-suicide. The couple, who had recently gotten engaged in January, shared a 4-year-old daughter. The young girl was in the home at the time of the shootings but was physically unharmed. She reportedly heard the gunshots and was told by her father to go back to her room. Police found her pretending to be asleep in her bed.
The motive for the horrific act remains unclear, as there was no documented history of domestic violence at the residence. Dugbor was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, a 9mm handgun, and the cellphone used to make the 911 call in his lap. The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis was activated to investigate the case, which was ultimately classified as a homicide/suicide.
Katrina Banks was remembered as a vibrant and intelligent woman who was dedicated to her children. She worked as an administrative coordinator at the Office of Undergraduate Research at Washington University in St. Louis and was also a student in the University College, close to earning a bachelor's degree. Friends and colleagues described her as having an incredible thirst for knowledge and a desire to provide every opportunity for her children.
