In a tragic turn of events on the evening of January 27, 2020, 44-year-old Alesha Brown lost her life in a violent intrusion at a St. Louis County apartment. That night, police were called to a residence on Midland Boulevard around 9:50 p.m. for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered two women inside the apartment suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims, identified as Alesha Brown, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second woman, aged 41, was also shot and was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.
The investigation into the double shooting revealed a sinister plot that began with a kidnapping. Authorities reported that two men, Leron Harris and Dwayne Harris, had abducted a man and forcibly took him to the Midland Boulevard apartment with the intention of robbing the occupants. During the course of the robbery, both Alesha Brown and the other woman were shot. The surviving victim later identified one of the assailants as Leron Harris, whom she knew personally.
Following the incident, the St. Louis County Police Department's Bureau of Crimes Against Persons launched a thorough investigation. Their efforts led to the arrest of Leron Harris, who was 48 years old at the time, on May 15, 2020. He was subsequently charged with a litany of serious offenses, including first-degree murder, first-degree assault, armed criminal action, first-degree robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm, and first-degree burglary.
The second suspect, 33-year-old Dwayne Harris, was taken into custody later. In July 2020, he was also charged in connection with the crime. The charges against Dwayne Harris included first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary, and four counts of armed criminal action. Both men were held without bond as they awaited legal proceedings for their roles in the violent home invasion that resulted in the death of Alesha Brown and the serious injury of another woman.
