On March 22, 2018, law enforcement officials in Pacific, Missouri, were dispatched to a residence following reports of a shooting incident. Upon arriving at the scene on Meramec Avenue near West Osage early that Thursday morning, first responders discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. The primary victim was identified as 24-year-old male Garry Stuart Mansfield, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Inside the home, police also located a 38-year-old woman who had sustained serious injuries during the same event. She was treated by emergency personnel and subsequently transported to a nearby hospital, where she was listed in critical condition. Investigators quickly established that Mansfield and the surviving female victim were known to each other, indicating that the incident was domestic in nature rather than a random act of violence involving strangers.
As the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and local police investigated the circumstances, they determined that no outside suspects were involved in the death. Preliminary reports released by authorities suggested a tragic sequence of events in which Mansfield discharged a firearm, inflicting a fatal wound upon himself. The same bullet reportedly traveled through a door, striking the woman on the other side. Consequently, law enforcement stated there was no evidence of a suspect at large, and the investigation did not result in the pursuit or arrest of any third-party individuals in connection with the shooting.
