On the night of September 10, 2018, the quiet streets of Kansas City, Missouri, became the setting for a tragic discovery when a motorist driving home stumbled upon a grim scene. Around 10:00 p.m., the woman was traveling near the intersection of 57th Street and South Benton Avenue when she noticed a figure lying on the lawn of a residence. Initially believing the individual might be intoxicated or in need of medical assistance, she pulled her vehicle over to check on his welfare.
As she approached, she realized the man was unresponsive and immediately dialed 911, but by the time first responders arrived, it was too late to save him.
The victim was identified as 30-year-old Demetrius Anthony Jackson, an African American male who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Police securing the area found evidence suggesting a chaotic final encounter. Jackson was discovered lying near a parked car with its driver's side door standing open, indicating he may have been intercepted just as he was exiting or entering the vehicle.
