On the evening of February 1st, what should have been a joyous occasion, a child's birthday party, turned into a scene of tragedy. Williams was fatally shot during an altercation that broke out at the gathering on Muldrow Street. As he attempted to flee the confrontation, he was struck down, his life cut short in a senseless act of violence.
The news of his death rippled through the community, leaving friends and family to grapple with the sudden and profound loss of a man described as a son, brother, mentor, and friend.
The investigation into Williams' death led authorities to two teenage suspects, Demetric and Trebion Dorsey. The subsequent legal proceedings revealed the harrowing details of that fateful night. It was determined that Demetric Dorsey, who was 17 at the time, fired the shot that killed Williams as he was running away. Trebion Dorsey, also 17, was present and played a role in the events that led to the fatal shooting, though he was not the one who pulled the trigger. The Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney's office pursued charges against both teenagers, emphasizing that gun crimes have serious consequences and that those responsible would be held accountable for their actions.
In December 2020, the Dorsey brothers faced sentencing for their involvement in Tajuan Williams' death. Demetric Dorsey was sentenced to a term of 10 years for first-degree involuntary manslaughter and a concurrent 15-year sentence for armed criminal action. Trebion Dorsey received a five-year sentence, with the possibility of release to probation after completing a 120-day shock incarceration program. The resolution of the court cases brought a measure of justice for the Williams family, though the pain of their loss remains.
