In the city of Indianapolis, a heart-wrenching story unfolded with the death of one-year-old Angel Guadalupe Rosales Alvarado. The young boy's life was cut tragically short, leading to an investigation that would pull back the curtain on a situation of severe neglect. His parents, 31-year-old Dunio Rosales-Duarte and 35-year-old Wendy Alvarado-Alvarado, now face serious charges in connection with his passing.
The grim discovery was made on a Monday morning, November 17th, when detectives were summoned to Eskenazi Hospital. Upon their arrival just after 10:30 a.m., they found young Angel to be severely underweight and malnourished. An examination by the coroner confirmed these initial observations, noting that the child's ribs and other bones were alarmingly pronounced. Further inspection revealed a multitude of injuries, including bruising on his head, chest, lower back, and buttocks. Scratches and scars marked his neck, chin, ear, chest, and right arm and hand. A bald spot on the back of his head suggested a lack of mobility.
According to court documents, the events of that morning began when Wendy Alvarado-Alvarado alerted the child's father, Dunio Rosales-Duarte, that something was wrong with Angel as he was preparing to leave for work. Rosales-Duarte told police he went to check on his son and found him cold to the touch and not breathing normally. He claimed that just five minutes earlier, the child had appeared to be fine. After dropping off Angel and Alvarado-Alvarado at the hospital, Rosales-Duarte left and returned to their home where two other children had been left unsupervised. He later admitted to police that he had smoked methamphetamine before taking them to the hospital and again upon returning home, feeling 'anxious and frustrated.'
Following an investigation, both parents were arrested. Dunio Rosales-Duarte has been charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death and two additional counts of neglect of a dependent. Wendy Alvarado-Alvarado is facing a charge of neglect of a dependent resulting in death. Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears expressed the profound sadness of the case, stating, 'It is crushing to confront the fate of this young child. Every child deserves the chance to grow up heathy, safe, and loved.' Both parents are currently being held in jail without bond.
