On the evening of June 10, 2020, a violent incident unfolded in the Tower Grove East neighborhood of Saint Louis, Missouri, claiming the life of a young local resident. Markeze Gray-Williams, a 22-year-old male, was near the intersection of Arsenal Street and Gravois Avenue when he was targeted by gunfire. He resided just a block away from where the shooting occurred, making the tragedy strike particularly close to home for the surrounding community.

Louis Metropolitan Police officers were dispatched to the scene shortly before 9:00 p.m. in response to reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Gray-Williams suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel rushed him to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but despite their life-saving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The area, located near the boundary of the Benton Park West neighborhood, was cordoned off as homicide detectives began their examination of the crime scene.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, investigators struggled to identify those responsible.
