In the summer of 2020, the life of 39-year-old Kimberly Wilson was tragically cut short in her own home in Creve Coeur, a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri. On the morning of July 11th, police responded to a report of a burglary at the apartment Kimberly shared with her husband, Adrian Wilson. Upon arrival, they discovered Kimberly deceased inside the residence; she had been shot.
Her husband initially claimed to have been out of town and to have found his wife's body upon his return, suggesting a burglary gone wrong. However, inconsistencies in his story and evidence gathered by investigators quickly unraveled his account.
As the investigation by the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis and the Creve Coeur Police Department progressed, a much darker picture emerged. It was revealed that the couple's ten-year marriage was fraught with a history of abuse. Friends and family described a climate of fear, with Kimberly expressing deep anxieties about her husband's behavior. In the time leading up to her death, she was reportedly distressed over his infidelity and was making plans to divorce him and relocate. Her fear was so palpable that she had recently purchased a handgun for her own protection after telling the gun range owner she was afraid her husband was going to kill her.
The evidence against Adrian Wilson mounted, and his initial claims of a burglary were proven false. Investigators determined he was in the vicinity at the time of the murder. He was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. During his trial, where he chose to represent himself, prosecutors laid out the case against him. His girlfriend testified, and a 911 call she made was played in court. A detective testified that Adrian Wilson altered his story only after being confronted with evidence that contradicted his initial statement. In February 2023, a St. Louis County jury found Adrian Wilson guilty of first-degree murder and armed criminal action. For the murder of his wife, he received a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
