On the afternoon of Tuesday, July 28, 2020, Ronald Edward Zimmerman, Sr., a 48-year-old male, was shot and killed in the Hillsdale area of St. Louis, MO. The shooting took place at approximately 4:15 p.m. in the 2000 block of Cherry Avenue.
Zimmerman was inside a vehicle when two individuals in another car reportedly opened fire, striking him. After the assault, the assailants fled the scene in their vehicle.
Emergency services transported Zimmerman to a local hospital, but he ultimately died from his injuries. A second male passenger in the car with Zimmerman was not harmed in the incident.
Known affectionately as 'Ron-Z,' Zimmerman was a father and was recognized in his community as a contractor and activist. He was remembered as a caring person who was deeply invested in his community and sought to bring about positive change.
The St. Louis County Police Department is investigating the shooting. Authorities have requested that anyone with information regarding the case come forward to assist with the investigation.
