In the late afternoon of a summer day in St. Louis, tragedy struck 28-year-old Jalonte Riley. On June 24, 2021, in the 3900 block of Olive Street in the city's Central West End, Riley was found suffering from gunshot wounds. The call to police was made around 4:35 p.m., reporting a shooting in the area. When officers arrived, they discovered Riley in a grassy area with wounds to his torso and arm.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was
pronounced dead. Investigators with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department quickly began to piece together the events of that afternoon. Their preliminary findings suggested that the shooting was the result of a domestic dispute.
In connection with the fatal shooting, authorities took a 28-year-old woman into custody approximately a mile from the scene. However, she was later released from custody as the investigation continued. Police have not publicly identified any other suspects or announced any arrests or charges in the case. The investigation into the death of Jalonte Riley remains ongoing.
