On December 4, 2021, a tragic incident unfolded in the woods southwest of Kahoka, Missouri, involving a local teenager named Jordan Eugene Griffey. The 14-year-old White male, a freshman student at Clark County R-1 High School, had ventured out alone into a timber area to engage in one of his favorite pastimes, deer hunting. Known by his friends and family for his deep appreciation of the outdoors, he frequently spent his free time fishing, riding four-wheelers, and hunting, activities that
defined much of his young life in the Williamstown and Kahoka communities.
While navigating the terrain during his hunt, he reportedly tripped, an accidental stumble that triggered the discharge of his rifle. The weapon fired a single shot which struck him in the shoulder. The severity of the wound led to massive blood loss, incapacitating him before he could seek help or be reached by emergency services. Clark County Coroner Edwin Wilson later responded to the scene and confirmed the details of the injury, pronouncing him dead at the location of the accident.
Following the investigation by local authorities, the death was officially ruled a tragic accident resulting from the mishandling of the firearm during the fall. Law enforcement officials concluded that no other individuals were involved in the shooting. Consequently, there were no suspects identified, no arrests made, and no criminal charges filed in connection with the case. The inquiry determined that the events were solely the result of the unfortunate mishap in the woods, closing the matter without a criminal trial or conviction.
