In a quiet home on Fenton Ridge Drive in Fenton, Missouri, the life of 47-year-old Kirstin Therese Bopp Gentemann came to a tragic end on January 17, 2022. Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the residence around 10:45 a.m. following a 911 call originating from inside the house, as well as calls from concerned neighbors.
Upon their arrival, they made a grim discovery in what was later determined to be a murder-suicide.
Inside the home, law enforcement found the bodies of Kirstin and her 57-year-old husband, Steven Gentemann. Kirstin had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, while her husband was found with a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound. A firearm was discovered in his hand. Investigators believe that Steven shot his wife before taking his own life. The incident was a shock to the community as authorities reported no prior history of domestic violence at the Gentemann residence.
The tragedy was nearly compounded, as two teenagers were present in the house just before the fatal shots were fired. They managed to escape the home unharmed before the situation escalated. The investigation into the motive behind the murder-suicide has not been publicly disclosed. As the perpetrator was also deceased, the case concluded without any arrests or further legal proceedings.
