Douglas Richard Smith, a 23-year-old U.S. Navy officer, was last seen on November 25, 1968, in Mountain View, California. He was stationed at Moffett Field with Patrol Squadron VP-19 and was expected to report for duty the next day, but he never showed up. Smith's car, a white 1967 Volkswagen coupe with California license plate HXJ 292, also disappeared around the same time.
