Melvin J. Wick, a 41-year-old fisherman, went missing on February 14, 1985, off the coast of Kodiak, Alaska. He was the captain of the 83-foot fishing vessel named the Alert. Also on board were four other crewmen: Shawn Heaney, Ray Basel, Paul Rowe, and Sveinn Adalsteinsson. The vessel was last seen in the Shelikof Strait heading for the shelter of Bumble Bay while it was accumulating ice.
