On a summer day in June of 1989, 33-year-old Michele Rene Green, a resident of Soldotna, Alaska, was a passenger on a plane returning from a bible camp in Port Alsworth. The flight, carrying a total of four individuals, was tragically cut short when the aircraft ran out of fuel and crashed into the waters of the Cook Inlet. Michele, along with the other passengers, Janelle Gerlitz, William Johnson, and Tara Wetzel, have been missing since the day of the crash. At the time of her disappearance, Michele was described as a White female with blond or strawberry-blond hair and blue eyes. She had a mole on her upper lip and another on her neck. She was last seen wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt, and a grey corduroy zippered jacket, and was adorned with a gold nugget cross necklace, a Timex watch with a white face and silver band, and a gold ring with a hearts and flowers design on her right little finger. The plane crash on June 16, 1989, prompted a search for the aircraft and its occupants, but these efforts yielded very little. While a few items from the plane were recovered from the water, the passengers were never found. The other individuals on the flight were 12-year-old Janelle Gerlitz, 49-year-old William Johnson, and 11-year-old Tara Wetzel. The Alaska State Troopers have been handling the case for all four missing individuals. The circumstances surrounding the crash, specifically the plane running out of fuel over water, have led authorities to the difficult conclusion that all four people on board are presumed to be deceased. The disappearance of Michele Green and the others on board the flight remains a tragic and unresolved event for their families and the community.
