On June 16, 1989, a tragic incident unfolded over the waters of Cook Inlet, Alaska. A single-engine Piper PA-22, piloted by 39-year-old William Johnson, was en route from Port Alsworth to Soldotna, transporting three passengers: 12-year-old Janelle Gerlitz, 11-year-old Tara Wetzel, and 33-year-old Michele Green. The group was returning from a Bible camp in Port Alsworth, where Johnson resided. Mid-flight, the aircraft ran out of fuel, leading to a distressing situation over the inlet.
