On July 6, 1996, 54-year-old Patricia "Pat" Bradney was enjoying a day of fishing with relatives in the waters of Cook Inlet, Alaska. Their boat was approximately three to four miles southwest of Ninilchik when the vessel unexpectedly overturned and became submerged. While the other two individuals on board were rescued from the water, Patricia was tragically trapped inside the cabin of the boat as it sank beneath the surface. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a brown Carhartt jacket, a turtleneck sweatshirt, a green "Grandma" sweatshirt, blue jeans, black socks, and white sneakers. She was also wearing a life vest. Immediate search and rescue efforts were launched in the area where the boat went down. Despite the prompt response, extensive searches of Cook Inlet were unsuccessful in locating Patricia or the submerged vessel. The cold, vast waters of the inlet presented significant challenges to the search teams. The Alaska State Troopers opened a missing persons case, but without any sign of Patricia or the boat, the search was eventually suspended. The circumstances of the boat overturning and sinking were investigated, but the primary focus remained on the unsuccessful search for Ms. Bradney. The disappearance of Patricia Bradney is a somber reminder of the inherent dangers of the Alaskan waters. For her family, the day began as a peaceful fishing excursion and ended in heartbreak and uncertainty. With no recovery of Patricia or the boat, the case remains an open and unresolved tragedy. The incident is a stark illustration of how quickly a recreational outing can turn into a life-altering event, leaving a family with unanswered questions and the enduring pain of loss. The official investigation, led by the Alaska State Troopers, has documented the events of that day, but without new leads or discoveries, the case remains a difficult and sorrowful chapter in the region's history.
